Dear Mom- Prose and Poetry

Jennifer opened Daniel’s letter as fast as she could. Cancer had left her with little strength and her fingers trembled more often now. Daniel never spoke since the day he learnt that she wasn’t going to be around after a while. Nobody told him, but he could see it in the doctor’s eyes. The horror of his soon to come reality. They say our eyes are the window to the soul, Daniel had seen his truth. She slowly took the letter out and unfolded it and tears marked her eyes before she could even start reading.

Dear Mom,

I look at the big green tree,
It stands so strong and tall,
And yet i see the leaves,
Like feathers they still fall.
Why would Mr.Tree,
Let go of all his leaves?
He stands so strong and tall,
And yet the leaves fall?
Jennifer smiled as tears trickled down her cheeks. She pulled Daniel into her bosom and broke down. Inconsolable. And yet, Daniel’s beating heart against her own calmed her like no medicine ever did. She looked out of the widow and looked at the view autumn had graced her with. The park was beautifully covered in hues of red , yellow and orange. She brought him up close and smiled and said-

Dear Daniel,

Look again at Mr,Tree,
He stands so brave and tall,
Yet he sets the leaves free,
So they may dance and fall.
That’s how life works my dear,
We come and play our parts,
We dance and cry and laugh,
So what you have to learn
A part you have to earn,
Come and put up a nice show,
Holding on and letting go.
